And my newest rom-com is . . .
Happy almost July, friends! Last week, I finally got to announce the title for my new rom-com. It’s called . . . Code Word Romance (thank you to my editor at Berkley for coming up with this; I’m terrible at titles), and it’s a second-chance adventure rom-com about a woman who is recruited to pose as a prime minister in Italy (and her ex is her handler!). The whole blurb’s at the end of this post, as are a few pre-order links, if the book sounds like your thing.
A quick wrap-up for the month . . .
What I’m watching: Hitman on Netflix. If you follow me on Instagram, you won’t be surprised by this; I have a role open for Glen Powell in every single one of my books. In The Takedown, I picture him as Johnny. In Code Word Romance, he is definitely Flynn!
What I’m reading: I’ve just started a re-read of Nora Goes Off Script, which is a perfect summer book (or spring book, or fall book, or anytime book). Annabel Monaghan’s newest is also up soon!
What I’m working on: On Thursday, I turned in the first 11k words of a new novel to my agents. This could be my next book. It depends on what my agents think of it! (Fingers crossed they like it, but it is a bit of a departure from what I’ve written before.)
What I’m listening to: This week I discovered “The Memory Palace” podcast and have gotten totally sucked in. A true story about a hotel shaped like an elephant? Historical records about play pirates? Yes, please.
And now, without further ado, the blurb for Code Word Romance.
One fake prime minister, one ridiculously hot handler, and one Italian summer collide in this thrilling adventure rom-com.
Max is just your average girl. She works odd jobs, has a soul-crushing amount of debt, and happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to Europe’s youngest female prime minister, Sofia Christensen. Sofia is powerful, beautiful—and unfortunately, someone is trying quite hard to assassinate her.
When the CIA approaches Max with a deal, a life-changing amount of money if she pretends to be Sofia on the prime minister’s annual Italian vacation, Max packs her bags for the Amalfi Coast. The delicious food, the breathtaking views—this trip would be a dream if it weren’t for those pesky assassins and Flynn, the handler assigned to Max’s case. Flynn, who has an unexpected history with Max, from another sun-drenched summer years and years ago. Now he’s instructed to stay in Max’s suite to protect her, as old passions and assassins collide.
Losing herself in the role of a prime minister is one thing. But losing her heart to Flynn again? Now that’s a risk she isn’t willing to take . . .
If that sounds fun to you, I would be over the moon if you pre-ordered from your local independent bookstore. Mine is Bookmiser, where I’ll be signing copies, and you can pre-order through them. But here are some additional links:

I hope everyone is having a fun, bookish summer.
Until next month,
Carlie
